Lífspeki. An Icelandic word that means ‘The practical philosophy by which one lives one’s life’.
I love this word so much. It makes we want to learn new languages just so I can find more like it. Stuff like schadenfreude (enjoying someone else’s misfortune) & Mamihlapinatapei (the wordless, yet meaningful look shared by two people who both desire to initiate something but are both reluctant to start) & Kyoikumama (a mum who relentlessly pushes her kids to academic achievement).
My lifspeki? To acquire as much enjoyment & emotion as possible before I die.
How will I do this? Step one: datsusara. Step two: travel & learn.
What’s you lifspeki?
